El primer equipo que pedí me salió mal y tuve que devolverlo en menos de una semana, le di una segunda oportunidad y este funciona correctamente, los juegos se ven super bien, hay quienes dicen que el sonido se escucha muy bajo pero tengo entendido que es sonido espacial (dtsx), la batería dura poco pero es razonable, es súper rápida y me encanta su diseño, también puedes hacerle upgrade a la Ram e instalarle un nuevo SSD sin problemas.

Como antecedente, he tenido laptops como dell precision m4800, hp pavilion dv6 y la última era una MSI leopard PRO i7 7700HQ GTX 1050, 32 ram y ssd, entonces mi opinión sobre la predator Helios 300 estará muy basada en la experiencia que tuve con esta última. El uso que le doy a mis computadoras es de diseño mecánico, simulaciones “pesadas” y obviamente videojuegos.
Teclado En primer lugar, tenía dudas por que el teclado estaba en inglés, pero con un par de configuraciones es muy fácil usarlo. Hasta pensé en comprar un modelo anterior que estaba un poco más caro pero que tenía el teclado en español, y que bueno que no lo hice. El recorrido de las teclas es muy corto y se siente bien al tacto, se calienta muy poco por la transferencia de calor de la CPU y GPU (no es incómodo), en general no es un teclado que resalte mucho
Pantalla Pensé que sería muy similar a la MSI (IPS Full HD con retroiluminación led) pero los 144Hz y el panel IPS si marcan mucho la diferencia, incluso se ve mejor que mi monitor, que es un LG 34UM69G-B monitor Ultra Wide IPS de 34 pulgadas.
CPU y GPU No hay mucho que decir, los datos técnicos son muy claros. En lo personal me están ahorrando mucho tiempo de productividad, por ejemplo, con la MSI tardaba 1 hora en hacer una simulación y con la Helios tardo 20 minutos. Si se siente el salto. En el renderizado 3D también se siente más fluido y tarda un 40% menos, aproximadamente Aclaro que es mi percepción. Igual para los juegos, se siente bien correr todos los FarCry en Ultra o casi casi Ultra. Un mundo de diferencia de la GTX 1050
RAM Antes tenía 32 GB en la MSI y todo bien, pero ahora, con 16 GB de ram si noto mucha diferencia al trabajar y tener distintos programas de diseño y simulación abiertos. Estoy en proceso de subir la memoria a 32 GB, he visto que hay que tener cuidado con las frecuencias y el dual chanel para seleccionar bien el tipo ram. Actualizaré si existe algo relevante. Para los juegos está bien, en las revisiones que le he dado nunca se satura.
Chasis y construcción La calidad de la predatos Helios 300, en cuanto a su construcción y materiales, es de sensación muy premium, se nota que el calibre (grosor) de las placas del chasis son más grandes, por lo que se siente muy sólida y resistente. Las dimensiones creo que están bien optimizadas, me gusta que los perfiles de los marcos de la pantalla no sean tan gruesos.
Expansión La que compré venia con un SSD de 500 GB M.2 NVME PCIE 4, pero tiene una ranura adicional de M.2 NVME PCIE y también trae un accesorio que se conecta a la placa madre y agregar un SSD o HDD sata. Es decir, puedes tener dos unidades SSD M.2 NVME PCIE y una unidad SATA 2.5. Yo le agregué un M.2 NVME PCIE Samsung EVO 980 de 1TB y un SSD Kingston A400, 960GB, SATA III, 2.5”, 7mm, por lo que ahora tengo 2.5 TB. En cuanto a la ram, tiene 16 GB DDR4 a 3200 MHz, creo que acepta hasta 32 GB y estoy en proceso de agregarla. Actualizaré si existe algo relevante.
Ruido y calentamiento Los ventiladores en su máxima velocidad suenan mucho, pero hasta el momento no he tenido y/o utilizado una laptop “gamer” que no tenga este problema, la ventilación es necesaria para mantener las temperaturas. Mi laptop MSI leopard pro suena igual y algunas laptops de amigos y conocidos con características similares tienen esta desventaja. Cabe mencionar que en casi todos los equipos tu puedes regular la relación de temperatura/velocidad de ventiladores, pero si quieres cuidar el equipo y sacarle más provecho puedes utilizar directamente el botón “turbo” Las temperaturas son muy estables, no llegan a mas de 70 grados (hasta ahora), con la MSI facil estaban a 95 grados funcionando al 100. En cargas normales rondan los 40 grados, igual la MSI y las otras que he probado.
————– Actualización 5 meses después de la compra Por el tipo de trabajo que realizo tuve que agregar mas ram (32 gb 2x16gb) y todo funciona mejor. Es muy fácil abrirla y hacer los distintos upgrades, además en YouTube aparecen muchos videos explicando como hacerlo.
Cosas positivas Me gusta que tenga thunderbolt 4 por que le pude conectar un HUB que me facilita la vida al momento de conectarla y desconectarla en mi área de trabajo. El botón turbo funciona bien, es decir, en otras laptops que tienen este botón solo es para aumentar la velocidad de los ventiladores, pero en esta laptops si aumenta las frecuencias sin tener que modificar nada más. Después de 5 meses no ha tenido ninguna falla o problema. Sigue siendo igual de facil trabajar con el teclado en inglés, solo es cuestion de cambiarlo a inglés internacional. Tambien el windows, es muy facil pasarlo al español sin reinstalar ni nada de eso.
Cosas negativas El monitor tiene una iluminación muy marcada en las esquinas superiores, como si algo estuviera presionando la pantalla por detrás. En mi caso se nota mucho por que siempre tengo fondos de pantalla y temas en color negro. Los ventiladores se ensucian muy rápido, pero esto es igual que en cualquier lap con prestaciones similares, ya que requiere ventiladores muy potentes, que por cierto, los que tiene esta laptop son los más potentes que he visto. La aplicación de Predator Sense es muy basica a comparacion de la MSI DragonForce (son de esas aplicaciones que vienen precargadas con casi todas las laptops gamer para ver temperaturas, hacer “overclock”, etc.)
Por último, si la compran, traten de no actualizar a windows 11, al menos en lo que se reparan muchas fallas que tiene. En W10 todo era perfecto y después de que actualicé, comenzaron problemas de compatibilidad con dispositivos de audio que se conectan por bluetooth y usb. También el rendimiento baja un poco, además de que tarda un poco más en iniciar, que es imperceptible si no estás acostumbrado a trabajar en ssd. Pero en fin, esto es para cualquier equipo, de echo tengo conocidos que tienen laptops similares en características pero de marcas diferentes y les ha ido peor.

TLDR; This is an excellent machine for the money if you are an MMORPG player. No regrets about buying this one. It’s a keeper.
I recently got back into World of Warcraft after many years away and my old laptop just couldn’t keep up. I started looking around at laptops capable of WoW gaming and actually tried out an MSI Stealth for a couple of weeks. It was a pretty laptop and lightweight, but man it struggled to keep up just being in a main city. Then I had a battery issue with it and decided to shop around instead of sending my brand new laptop in for work.
How I use it: Play WoW, I use it for my side gig (AI Chatbots) and general doom scrolling. I don’t overclock or do anything fancy to try to squeeze more out of my machine, other than minor upgrades and settings tweaks.
I looked at a ton of laptops and combos of specs and finally thought I’d give this one a try. It had slightly better specs than the MSI at around the same price. This laptop is awesome. It never struggles to keep up at. I haven’t done any raids yet so I don’t know how it will perform in that situation but I will update once I know.
Pros: performs beautifully playing World of Warcaft. Fan almost never needs to kick in, yet it also doesn’t get that hot.
Cons:
Size/weight: this thing is heavy and huge. It packs a punch but you sacrifice portability. Yes it’s a 16″ laptop but I hadn’t imagined just how big and heavy it would be. I have a 16″ laptop for work and this is far heavier. It feels well made though. Yes you can still carry it around, but you won’t want to much. I mostly keep it at home anyway so that’s not a deal breaker for me.
Battery life: yeah, it’s pretty bad. I’ve been on battery power for almost an hour on “eco-mode” and it’s down 15%. The power brick is also huge, so if you are communiting or traveling with this often, the weight and size of the computer with brick is going to be a drag.
RAM limited to 32gb: I’m suprised such a big and powerful laptop can only take up to 32gb of ram. I have not yet upgraded my RAM yet because it’s performed so well so far. I do have 32gb on hand and plan to upgrade anyway. But seeing how well it’s performed so far, not having 64gb might not be an issue at all.
Can’t (yet) figure out how to wake from sleep with bluetooth keyboard/mouse. I have changed every possible setting under the sun, including tweaking the BIOS and it still doesn’t wake on bluetooth mouse/keyboard. That’s annoying. I have a really small desk that houses to 27″ monitors and two laptops. I keep the laptops in a vertical stand which saves me tons of space, but it’s super annoying to have to pull this thing out, open it up and wake it up.

I can say it’s a very good mid level laptop:
Games tested so far: FFXIV – 120-150fps on 7.0 with DLSS on and everything maxed. Cyberpunk 2077 – 90-110 fps on High settings, DLSS frame generation and low RTX lighting.
Build quality is good, it’s a bit thicker than most laptops in the space but has solid feeling hinges and the keyboard is a bit more clicky than the usual click clack ones laptops have.
I’ve heard some people complain about fan noise but compared to other ones I’ve owned the fans are very quiet.
Screen quality is very good, feels more bright with bold colors than others in the space, and had no backlight bleed.
Has a solid amount of ports, with two normal USB A ports on the right side and two thunderbolt ports on the back next to the HDMI port. Supports displayport over USBC, no issues using it with my Valve Index.
Has 2 m.2 slots that can be easily accessed by removing a few screws at the bottom. Note that the left (filled) slot is the only one that can fit a full size m.2 nvme drive, the other slot doesn’t have as much clearance., and some of the thicker ones with cooling pads will not fit at all.
Still, this is a VERY easily upgraded laptop, you don’t have to pull apart half the laptop to upgrade the M.2. or ram slots, so Acer is a class act for doing that.
Note this is the 2023 version with the blue intakes on the back and not the 2024 version with the black square ones.
For complaints: the hinge on the screen seems quite large so the screen position does feel a bit higher than most laptops. Some people may actually prefer that but I like a more sleek look without gaps between the base and the screen when opened.
Battery life isn’t great, but that’s to be expected with a gaming laptop.
If you can get this sub-$1000, it’s an absolute steal. Highly recommended.

Has 2 m.2 slots that can be easily accessed by removing a few screws at the bottom. Note that the left (filled) slot is the only one that can fit a full size m.2 nvme drive, the other slot doesn’t have as much clearance., and some of the thicker ones with cooling pads will not fit at all.
Still, this is a VERY easily upgraded laptop, you don’t have to pull apart half the laptop to upgrade the M.2. or ram slots, so Acer is a class act for doing that.
Note this is the 2023 version with the blue intakes on the back and not the 2024 version with the black square ones.
For complaints: the hinge on the screen seems quite large so the screen position does feel a bit higher than most laptops. Some people may actually prefer that but I like a more sleek look without gaps between the base and the screen when opened.
Battery life isn’t great, but that’s to be expected with a gaming laptop.
If you can get this sub-$1000, it’s an absolute steal. Highly recommended.
