I thought the scroll wheel on my mouse gave up. Coincidentally, it was another Redragon SKU, the M601-3 Centrophorus. I began a restless search for a successor, one with improved aesthetics, functionality and a drive for longevity, but not financially gluttonous.

I scoured the internet, high and low, side to side, black and white and sometimes upside down and inside out. I researched all sorts of dragons, large and small, red and green and even green and red. I learned a great deal about this mythical creature. But in all honesty, none of them would fit on my desk. I doubt any of them would fin in my house. And if they did, did they evolve with an adequate DPI???

The search continued and several prospects from numerous brands emerged, but some seemed over engineered for my needs, others were too dull for my creative spirit, and yet others inadequate in all aspects despite their alluring price points. Many other brands were preposterously priced no matter WHAT the function. I was becoming weary.

There must be SOMETHING out there which actually exists outside of an imaginary, mythical, yet artistically prolific realm. My primary electronics purveyor did not possess the mouse that would electrify me. Nor did my primary pet shop……… What??? 😐

And yet again, Amazon had to entertain my propensity for acquiring appurtenances. And yet again…Amazon delivered. But this isn’t an endorsement for Amazon, no. Which is fantastic. And a great resource for random commodity stock, even for a minimalist like myself, who only buys things that are NECESSARY, not over buying, not over spending, just………

Right, the Dragon. Well, I searched Amazon…… 😉 ……and was greeted by a deluge of mouse choices… Choices for mice… Choice of mice…… Anyway, some came with tails, some without. I tend to stick to the wired kind because they have been, to date, more reliable and economical (no battery replacements or charging required). I sifted through the digital pile of mice and found this M612 Predator (Great film, by the way. Predator, 1987…The Terminator and Apollo Creed, hunting, or BEING hunted, rather, by a sadistic trophy collecting alien…… *thumbs up*)……

Right, the Dragon. So the M612 Predator filled the role I envisioned a mouse would fill. It has, let’s see, left click, right click. So far, so good. It has a scroll wheel. Nice touch. It has two more buttons on the left side for gamers (not fifty buttons, but a modest two) so I don’t feel overwhelmed as I age, what with dementia and arthritis setting in I wouldn’t remember what they all do OR click them if I did. And it has a rapid fire button at the edge of the left click button. Again, a gimmick for gamers but it could double as double click (see what I did ther?) for other applications/programs, giving the left click button some much needed respite.

Other than that, it feels great. Much like, what I imagine, a real life dragon would feel like as you caress its scales, which are sensitive to the touch but solidify your grip. It’s contours support your palm gently, yet vigorously. It’s not very heavy and glides on the mouse pad as if it were airborne, gliding the thermals towards the horizon of online wonders. It feels very responsive regardless of what it’s tasked with. Between downtime on War Thunder, or tedious Excel spreadsheet compositions I cannot complain.

And lastly, yes……… It breathes fire (RGB). Not too many lighting modes but again, as a minimalist, that’s perfectly fine. It looks elegant and ferocious. Ever see a dragon spewing red flames? That’s what you’ll get with the M612………if……if you set it to all red lighting…

After initial use, I actually purchased a second mouse for my daughter. Not only that, but once my M601 scroll wheel came back to life during use as a laptop mouse (unexpected turn of PC/laptop accesory developments) I set the Predator aside for future use once the M601 does finally succumb to a barrage of vehement clicking. I just don’t want to wear and tear it until I’M ready, OK??? But I am pleased to report that my daughter has been using her M612 since July of 2021 without any issues.

I highly recommend this mouse. It preforms better than expected and looks and feels great. It also has twice the DPI of the M601 which is more than enough. If only it could cook, I’d be in business.

I also highly recommend you watch Predator from 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers.

You won’t be disappointed with either.

The tracking is excellent and the ability to fine tune both the DPI and the transmission rate through its onboard buttons and even FINER using the mouse’s companion software was a very helpful surprise. I find the extreme of 8000 DPI far too sensitive for gaming, but I also have 3 large monitors where that boost keeps my mouse from falling off my deskpad when I need to drag the mouse from the left of one screen to the right of the furthest screen.

Since there are three connection modes; wired, bluetooth and RF transmitter, you can connect up to three devices at one time and switch between them using the signal switch on the bottom. This is really useful if you have a laptop open beside your gaming rig for streaming or other things going on and you can’t twist your body reach the trackpad for whatever reason. Having a bluetooth keyboard like I do that also has multi-device connectivity also helps with this. PLEASE NOTE: The mouse prioritizes the hard connection, so if the mouse is plugged in, no matter what the signal switch is turned to, it will only give inputs to the machine that the USB cable is plugged into. It also may take a couple of seconds after the mouse is disconnected to automatically switch into bluetooth or RF mode, depending on how familiar the devices are with one another at that point.

In either wireless mode, bluetooth or 2.4g RF, the battery lasts a really really long time and the mouse has a sleep timer that you can adjust in the software so that it isn’t constantly using its power to light up.

The only problem with the wireless modes I’ve encountered is that if it has gone fully to sleep after a few consecutive minutes of inactivity it might take a couple of seconds to wake back up and take control of the cursor when it’s time to get back to it. There’s also the possibility of the signals being interfered with or dropped by your machine in certain circumstances such as too many bluetooth devices being connected at once. Because of this, while the wireless modes are incredibly responsive and usable for casual gaming with the added ability to control your signalling rate in the software, you’ll want to have it connected by USB during competitive play of any kind to avoid any kind of interference with your movement/aiming.

I bought this mouse for my son. He is very picky when it comes to a mouse. I have bought him ones that are 5x the amount of this one, and red dragon is his favorite brand when it comes to a mouse for gaming. He only likes wired ones for some reason. But, he said the mouse accurate, responsive, and I can say it’s durable. He is very energetic when it comes to gaming. I tried it out. I agree it is responsive and it scrolls easily and is accurate. No annoying noises from the mouse. He’s happy and I think it’s great mouse.

For this price rang it is a good mouse. if you using a light mouse you can find it a little heavy, than you will get used to it. Good for gaming and in hand feel is really good.

  7. Brittany

The colors were the first thing that got me, not gonna lie. I love the changing lights. The mouse itself is really durable, good quality, responsive, accurate, and easy to use. It’s definitely the best gaming mouse I’ve had in a long while.

  8. R. Smalley

I’ve had the mouse for a little over a month now and I must say I’m impressed with the quality for this price. It looks and feels quite nice. And has a ton of features.

     Here is my honest review:

This mouse is a powerhouse, the price is just right. I was not expecting something out of this world and it is certainly not but is just right for casual gaming, WFH or just browsing the internet. The programmable keys are super helpful when doing repeated actions.

RGB lights are very nice with a lag-free view when changing colors. DPI can be easily adjusted which is very convenient when going from gaming to working and vice versa. I like a heavy mouse and this one certainly is. It doesn’t have weight adjustment which is always a plus but for this price, you can’t beat it.

My last Redragon lasted for 3 years with no problem no issues and very easy to clean due to how the surface is. I’m just getting a new one because I need one for my office as well. Recommended for anyone looking for something ergonomic, heavy, and fast.

  11. Translucent Finishing

As a parent looking for a good gaming mouse for my son, I recently picked up the Redragon M612 Predator RGB Gaming Mouse. Here’s what I found after he’s been using it for a while:

Precision Prowess: The 5 DPI levels (easily switched mid-game!) have been a game-changer. He can adjust on the fly depending on the situation, whether it’s lining up a sniper shot or navigating a fast-paced battle. Plus, the software lets him customize even further for ultimate control.

Button Bonanza: My son loves having 11 programmable buttons! He’s been remapping them to his favorite in-game actions and creating macros for quicker execution. The rapid fire function and side macro buttons have definitely upped his game (pun intended!).

Comfort Counts: This mouse feels great in his hand. The frosted coating is comfortable and keeps fingerprints at bay. The textured left side gives him a solid grip during those intense gaming sessions. No more hand cramps, even after hours of playing!

Light Up the Night: The RGB lighting modes are a fun bonus. He loves picking his favorite colors and customizing the effects. It adds a cool vibe to his gaming setup, especially when synced with his other Redragon gear (hint, hint for future birthday gifts!).

Built to Last: The ergonomic design and sturdy build quality give me peace of mind. It feels like a mouse that can handle even the most enthusiastic gameplay.

    Overall:

This mouse has been a big win for both of us! My son loves its features and performance, and I’m happy he has a comfortable and customizable tool to take his gaming to the next level. It’s definitely a great choice for any gamer looking for an edge.

I own multiple razor mice. After a year or so they all have the scroll wheel fail. I wish I would have bought this mouse instead. Feels great and works perfect. Great for budget gaming and with the extra buttons I use it for work as well. Should have bought this first. Feels great, RGB is good, amazing for the price.
