Let’s face it, I’m old. I’m probably one of the oldest gamers you know. I still hear really well but my reaction speed is a little slow so I need to know when you little jerks are sneaking up on me with your knife thinking you’ll just melee the old man and teabag him for some sweet screenshots. That ain’t gonna happen. With this headset and the patience that comes with age I will turn the tables and pad my kill ratio. Thanks Zoomer. Sure, I can afford the most expensive gaming headset out there, but man I’d rather retire to the beach with my pina colada a little earlier so why waste money? In fact I bet you could flip a few less burgers and play a few more hours if you bought this headset over some pricey RabbitRiver brand or whatever you kids call them. My head’s kind of big and my skin is a little thin but still I find these muffs to be super comfortable for long hours of gaming. I don’t even take them off for my 4 times an hour bathroom breaks.

Compre.

The startup instructions directed me to download the DTS Sound Unbound application before connecting the headphones. I found that app to cost $19.99 so I took a chance and just plugged in the wireless USB dongle and turned on the headphones. Voila! The sound works perfectly with the Windows sound drivers. No need to get complicated unless you need advanced sound settings.

Although I rated the sound and bass as 5 stars, I don’t want it to be understood that these are equal to top of line Sennheisers for listening. However, I found music listening to be pleasant if audiophile ears are not criticizing. There is plenty of bass as well as detail in the midrange and treble. Separation between left and right earphones in stereo sounds like there is zero crossover.

I plan to use these in online meetings primarily as I have other higher rated headphones for listening. However, I was attracted by the wireless connection to the PC as well as the flip-up-to-mute boom mic which I find convenient for calls and meetings on the computer. Will try it out today with MS Teams and report back if there are any issues.

Used these in several MS Teams meetings after posting the initial review. They are exactly what I wanted. The mic muted when flipped up. That worked perfectly. Holding down the power button for a few seconds turns the device on or off with a beep. A green LED shows when on and the LED on the USB dongle goes from blinking red to solid red when the headset is on and connected.
Apparently, there is also an automatic shutoff after a while of no sound. This did not happen during meetings–only after disconnecting from a meeting and laying them down on the desk. When powering on, the phones instantly connect to the computer and are ready to go. Less of a lag than Bluetooth. Range is about 20 to 30 feet and is affected by obstacles–moreso if the obstacle is large and metallic–like a refrigerator.

So the first set of headphones I bought lasted about 3.3 years. During COVID, the headset that used to be for casual gaming time with friends became a daily meeting work tool.

I abused these headphones by stuffing it into backpacks since they’re made pretty durable and over time the ear paddings was slowly showing wear. However, the headphone was still useable. What eventually broke was the wiring that caused sound to not go into one of the ears.

The over-ear padding does put some pressure on the ears which takes time to get used to.

The noise canceling is pretty good. I have a portable air conditioner that gets pretty loud and most people I asked if they could hear it going, didn’t even know I had one on.

The sound quality is okay. I’m not an audiophile but I’m sure my friends who are (and has paid hundreds for a better sounding pair) would say the headphone is okay for a cheapo pair.

The headphones work fine on my old iPhone/iPad that has a AUX jack. It works on both MacBooks and PCs. Works fine on a backbone controller for newer iPhones. I’ve even tried it on a Roku remote (needs an AUX jack) to stream shows.

There are no blinking LED lights and you can mute yourself by flipping the mic up and down, no switch needed. One quirk to the mic is you might need to make sure the mic is on first when going into a meeting room but afterwards, just flip the mic up to mute yourself. It’s definitely convenient without having to manually mute yourself. I also work with a lot of different meeting apps so not all of them are have a proper mute hotkey.

One visible difference from the first pair to the new one is the microphone. The older pair’s mic curves and is a bit more bendable that when you flip it up, it nicely slopes along the side and top of the headset. When you flip the new pair up, it just stands straight up like a weird antenna and is no longer as bendable. Not quite sure the reasoning for it. It does feel odd having it stick up like that when not in use though.

Overall, there isn’t much to really complain about. I’m definitely much happier with the new pair than I would with other headphones out there, and I have tried a few others after the first pair broke.

I seen a couple of people say the audio isn’t the greatest. For hardcore gamers, maybe. But for me who just wanted a wireless headset that was reliable, a known brand, and at least was decent audio; this headset definitely exceeds those criteria.

My last headset had a leather-type material (that would go over your ears), and that material started flaking off within a year. Which is okay, but this was why I was looking for a material like this (which hopefully won’t tear quickly). So this was one benefit of these headphones – a more durable material.

Secondly, the audio is great. Like I said, if you need a specific noise level because you’re a hardcore gamer, you probably want to pay $200-300 or more for your headset, as is the norm. For for casual gamers, like myself, and those wanting to use this for the current global climate (zoom meetings and other online conferences), these will do exactly what you need.

Third, the material itself for the headset feels durable and strong. It fit perfectly around my head with the ability to adjust it based on your needs.

Now, for the price, I’d personally have preferred to (based on this headset) maybe pay a little bit less, but at the end of the day, it still beat out the other options (either for durability, features, or price).

Lastly, just playing a quick game of Call of Duty: Warzone, I can confirm these will be great for a game like this (where 360 degree audio is more essential). Again, it may not be as good as a $300 headset, but this is to be expected as you’re paying less.

Final say: For the majority of people, this will do perfectly fine. For a starting or moderate gamer, this will still be fine. For a pro gamer, you likely will want to invest in something more, but this would still do most of what you need anyways at a cheaper price. Depending on your wants/needs, this should meet most (if not all) of them.

Good product, I’d definitely recommend it.
