I thought the translator would not need to be connected to my phone. When I translate the process is too slow

  2. Young Greg

This device need to connect to your phone via Bluetooth and stay running in the background. Thougtit was an independent translator

  3. Anthony

I bought several and tested a few. So far, this has worked very well, and I hope others will too.

First, I know that most modern phones have translation capabilities, so when I ordered this pocket translator, I was not sure what the true benefit would be. Having tried it out for a few days, I can say that I really like it.

The translator device is easy to use. With the requisite app downloaded from the App Store and installed on your phone, and the device synced to the same phone via Bluetooth, you merely turn the device on, then open the app on your phone and it will automatically connect.

Once connected, The app displays a split screen, the top four the target language, and the bottom for the your native language. Using the drop-down arrows on each, you select the appropriate language. Once that’s done, to translate from your native language, you simply press and hold the “Me” button while speaking. As you do so, the words you speak show up as text in your native language (English in my case), on the lower half of the phone. Then, within a second or two, the translated, or target, language translation will appear as text in the top of your screen, and also audibly spoken through from the translator via the voice assistant.

So, in addition to the actual audio translation, both the native and target languages are shown in written forms on the phone, in their corresponding written language. When speaking with someone in another language, you could also use your phone to show somebody the written words that you are speaking, which I think is a very nice feature.

My wife also speaks German and French, and we tried several different phrases, and the translations were correct in all cases. To me, the biggest upside to having the separate device, and not just relying on your phone for translation capabilities, is that you can keep your phone in your pocket, hand simply hold the translator small, speak into it, and then have the translated language broadcast through the internal speaker to whoever you’re conversing with. It’s a lot easier to hold than your phone if you’re navigating through a foreign country. Well, I mentioned earlier that the text also does appear on the phone screen via app, as long as the app is open, you do not need to do anything on your phone. Once the native and target languages have been selected.

Completely forgot to mention that the device will also translate back from your target language to your native language. Simply hand the device to the person you’re talking to, they’ll press the button with the microphone logo and speak into it…what they say will be translated into your native language.

I’ve attached a very simple video clip showing how easy it is to use. What I had already done was to synchronize the device to my phone via Bluetooth, which is just a one time requirement, as it auto connects from then on once it is turned on and the app is opened. And I had also downloaded the required app, the name of which is provided in the instruction booklet.

The last thing I wanted to mention is that the translation device does have volume control buttons. I had the volume maxed out for the purpose of my video, so it sounds slightly distorted.

To wrap up this rambling review, I will say again that I really like this device. Some people may prefer just to use the translation capability of popular phone apps, but I do like being able to use this device Without having to pass by phone back-and-forth when speaking with someone and another language. This will be useful on an upcoming trip to Europe, in addition to getting through some more in depth conversations with some international students that I work with.

I think this product is very simple and easy to use. it’s a great product!! Due to work reasons, l have boughtmany other translators, including translators that can be used independently and Bluetooth translators thatneed to be paired with a smartphone. The translators that can be used independently are often moreexpensive, mostly around $100, and in fact, they do not use very outstanding CPUs for processing, sosometimes you may encounter stuttering and poor siqnal problems.

El fabricante miente al decir que funsiona sin coneccion, mentira, tienes que descargar una app y luego mantener tu telefono serca y conectado, con datos o wifi, de otro modo no funsiona y para terminar no es muy preciso. Conclusion es mejor invertir un poco mas por algo que verdaderamente funsione.

I interact with speakers of non-English all the time as a professional and I needed something like this for a long time. I also have a multicultural family that interacts in English, Romanian, and Spanish, which gave me an opportunity to test it in these languages and its performance is impressive! It works very well, allowing my kids to interact with their non-English speaking grandparents. We tested it from different angles, at different speeds and levels of complexity and it still worked. I can’t wait to take it along while traveling this summer!

  8. John Mooney

Don’t know how well it translates because IT DOESN’T EVEN CONNECT to the app.
