If you purchase this phone, bear in mind it comes with a TON of bloatware straight from the factory, meaning pre-loaded junk apps sponsored by Motorola. This software hides itself as “folders,” but in reality they are links to downloads and/or ads. Do yourself a favor, before downloading or importing anything, take time to uninstall anything that looks like a folder and any undesirable apps that are preloaded, to free up the available memory and storage.

Once that’s out of the way, you’ll find that the phone is pretty capable. The included stylus, headphone jack and expandable storage are each rare these days, and are welcome additions. Make sure to get the 6Gb RAM version of this phone, as modern apps will otherwise bog down performance on the 4Gb version. Definitely worth the slight bump in price…

Overall, this is a decent entry to mid level phone for someone on a budget or just not needing the latest tech. You get many features that would have been premium just a year or so ago, and it works surprisingly well for the cost.

I bought this to replace my very old Moto Z Play with only 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The old phone was getting full and is struggling when having to connect to Android Auto. I liked the Moto Gestures to turn on the flash light, etc, so I thought I give Moto another chance.

Those features returns. With it a lot of other fluff that Motorolla decided to install in it. Moto Hub is the biggest offender. It has notification on that says that it can be adjusted, but it kept spouting out irrelevant news bits that I wasn’t asking for. The only option to turn off notification can only be done for 24 hours before it will bug you again. The good news is that you can uninstall the app. Which I did and peace and order was restored.

The second problem I encounter was at one point, after I activated my phone, I receive no phone signal. I had to turn on WiFi calling to make calls and I can’t receive call at all. This was frustrating because I was trying to contact plumbers to make an after hour visit. You can receive SMS messages but no signal to make calls. After some troubleshooting with Verizon support, I figured out that reseating the SIMM card fixes the problem. I have no further call issue after that solution.

I haven’t been using the stylus much at all since the case cover with screen protector that I got somewhat hinder the performance a bit. But I don’t miss that function much. I just use it as a normal phone.

The Android Auto performance was excellent. It normally takes me 2+ minute to get going from plugging it in, to almost instantly connected and ready to go.

It is a very good value at $299 which when I bought it. It can play Genshin Impact, has ample 256GB storage and it is expandable with microSD card. At the moment my free storage is sitting comfortably above 199GB. The 6GB RAM also pretty good in keeping that Android Auto snappy instead of having to swap the memory around.

I set my phone up to unlock with fingerprint sensor touch and face unlock. The face unlock is a bit finnicky (can only safe one face at one lighting condition) but the fingerprint unlock performs flawlessly and you can add more than one finger to unlock. When setting up your fingerprint unlock, be sure to touch the sensor at every different angle you might be touching the phone to unlock it. Set multiple fingers with left and right hands (preferably two fingers of each hands: thumb and pointing finger). Turn your phone upside-down and facedown if necessary. This way you can always unlock with any finger that will reach that power button.

Overall, I’m happy with the purchase despite the minor annoyances. Good performance, good battery life, annoyance that can be turned off.

This phone is an excellent value considering the features included at its low price. I was attracted by the long battery life, 5G capability, high resolution screen, and stylus. My wife and I have had 4 or 5 different Motorola phones over the past 15 years and been very satisfied with them. Long battery life is a hallmark of Motorola phones. My primary use is for phone calls, text messages, and internet access. The battery easily gets me through a full day without the need to recharge. On those days where I overuse the phone it’s easy to boost the charge with a brief plugin. I like having an earphone jack, Dolby stereo, and 2 speakers since I frequently use the phone to play music. Phone conversation has been clear and crisp. The migration from my Motorola G Power 2020 to this phone is the smoothest and fastest that I’ve ever experienced. I connected a cable with USB-C connectors on each end between the 2 phones and had everthing transferred well within an hour. Thus far I haven’t detected any missing apps, contacts, or anything else. I had to adjust many settings on the new phone, but that was relatively simple. I have not yet tested 5G to see how much it’s an improvement over 4G, but I have observed that I’m connected in 5G mode. Nor have I tested the camera very much. As a photography hobbyist, I frequently carry interchangeable lens cameras with me and seldom use my phone’s camera. I’ve taken a few selfies and some scenery shots merely to verify that the camera is working… One of the improvements that matters to me greatly is that this phones don’t skip when I play music through my Bose QC45 noise cancelling headphones. My previous Moto G Power 2020 had interruptions when paired with the Bose QC45’s. I spent many hours troubleshooting that. I did not experience that skipping with any other source connected to the Bose QC 45’s. Nor did I experience the skipping when I connected the Moto G Power 2020 phone to any other bluetooth receiver. I never determined why my old phone didn’t work well with the Bose headphones, but I’m glad that the Moto G Stylus 2023 5G works well with the Bose QC45 headphones. I heartily recommend this phone.
