Samsung has been acing the mid-range smartphone game this year thanks to its Galaxy-M series and Galaxy F-series smartphones. Smartphones in these series bring features such as the company’s famed super AMOLED display along with a triple-camera-setup, a Qualcomm chipset and Android 14 to the users at an affordable price, making them an ideal entry point to Samsung’s ecosystem of premium smartphones.

Now, earlier this year, Samsung updated its Galaxy M-series lineup by launching the Samsung Galaxy M55 5G smartphone. This smartphone offers a major upgrade over the Galaxy M53 5G that was launched in India in 2022 at a starting price of Rs 22,999. The list of upgrades includes a brighter display, fast charging support and a better core. Besides these, the Galaxy M55 5G also features some noteworthy upgrades, such as a 12GB RAM variant, which is a first in the series, 45W fast charging support, and a Super AMOLED Plus display.

Samsung Galaxy M55 5G Review in 5 points

– Design is one of the strong suits of the Galaxy M55 5G. This phone comes with a plastic back that is accentuated by a soft metallic shimmer and a chrome-ring camera design, which give it a clean look. The back panel, unlike the phones with glass back, is adept at keeping all the smudges and fingerprint marks at bay. Talking about the usage, the phone is light and quite comfortable to use even with a single hand.

– Next is the display. Samsung is known for its AMOLED displays that produce bright and vibrant colours making even the dullest images look lively. The Galaxy M55 5G is no exception to this rule. The screen of the Galaxy M55 5G is ideal for watching your favourite shows on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. It provides a good dynamic range, and it works well under the bright Delhi sun.

– Coming to the performance, the Galaxy M55 5G does a good job in day-to-day scenarios. It may not be the snappiest phone in the market right now, but it gets the job done without any hiccups. Be it multitasking or simply using the phone amid the sweltering Delhi heat wave, it doesn’t slow down or stop. The fingerprint sensor and the facial recognition systems are also quick to unlock the phone in seconds.

– Now comes the camera. The Galaxy M55 offers a fairly good camera performance, especially for a phone in its price range. The colours, as I mentioned before, are bright and vibrant, and the phone does a good job at capturing colours even in a dimly lit environment. It even does a good job at persevering colours and capturing details during night. That said, the Galaxy M55 5G could use some work on capturing more details for offering sharper images.

– Lastly, the battery. The Galaxy M55 5G easily lasts for an entire day on moderate usage and it takes 60-90 minutes to charge the phone using the 45W charging solution that ships inside the box. What I don’t like is that Samsung doesn’t ship the phone with a charger, which needs to be purchased separately and adds to the overall cost of the device.

Samsung Galaxy M55 5G Review: Verdict

At a starting price of Rs 26,999, Samsung Galaxy M55 5G offers a decent value-for-money proposition to the buyers. It’s sturdy and it has a smudge-free design that is hard to dislike. It offers a decent performance, if not an exceptional one, along with a day-long battery life. Sure, there are areas where the phone could do better. For instance, Samsung could improve the overall camera performance of the phone. Other than that, and the charger, the Galaxy M55 5G is worth considering if you are looking for a phone under Rs 30,000.
