I took this camera snorkeling in La Jolla. It performed very well overall. The picture quality was very good. I didn’t have any issues with the underwater case fogging up due to the temperature change from the summer air to the cold water (unlike my snorkel mask)! I only had 2 issues:
    1. The light that indicates the camera is filming turns off after a certain amount of time, thus it was hard to determine if the camera was still filming or not. I noticed a few other reviewers also mentioned this
    2. The attachment device that came with the camera wouldn’t tighten enough to keep the camera in position if I moved in the water with any force. This is a very minor complaint – when I noticed the camera angle changed I would just adjust it.
Overall I think this camera is a great deal – good quality for the money!

When I opened the box, I was surprised by just how many little accessories came with the Brave 4. I like that they’re fairly interchangeable with the gopro mounts. I decided to use the waterproof case since it has a gopro type attachment on the bottom and I figure it gives the camera decent protection. I had to dremel a slot into the case so that I could attach the external mic. No biggie since I’m not using the case to film underwater, just to give it some rock and rain protection while on my motorcycle. The video defaults to 4k, but I’m not making a movie for hollywood here, so I set it down to 1080. The little remote control is strapped on just below the camera, it works well and it’s much nicer than trying to work the little buttons on the camera while riding on the highway.

I bought this because it costs only $10 more than buying a microphone adapter and external mic, and case for the adapter for my gopro 7. So for essentially the same money I could get a whole second camera with external mic. now I can just use the gopro for a second camera angle.

I was slightly scared when I felt how light this brave 4 actually is. It feels like a feather in my hand, like I could break it by just closing my fist too hard. Which is another reason I’m going to leave it in the waterproof case. But so far it’s working very well, and the app was easy to connect to and download videos. For this price I wasn’t expecting top quality, but I’ve got to say I’m surprised and the quality is better than I was expecting!

I wanted a little waterproof video camera to record video and take photos on my motorbike. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, but wanted semi-decent video and images. So far this little beauty has exceeded my expectations. I’m a bit of a geek by nature and film a lot of videos (underwater), so I have a fair idea of what is good and what is not…

I’ve had the camera for a few days now and my initial impressions are:

    – Quality seems excellent. I really only need to shoot in 1080p (4K is really too large for most purposes) and having 60fps is desirable, the right boxes are ticked already.
    – Video stabilization is essential on the motorbike, and this little camera does an excellent job with the footage.
    – The remote control is very useful and functional. I’ve attached it to the handle-bars, so I can easily stop and start recording video…PLUS, if you are recording video, you can hit the photo button on the remote and it takes a 20MP photo without interrupting the video. This is so useful for taking quick pictures of lovely scenes and still get the video you want
    – The camera has loads of different functions, so easy to change resolution, go to Underwater Mode, take burst shots, loop your video and take time-lapse (see example video)
    – It comes with a large range of including mounting options and accessories. I’ve easily attached it to my motorbike, securely, without having to purchase anything additional
    – It comes with two batteries and a charger that charges both batteries at the same time

I honestly can’t believe how good value this is, highly recommended,

I simply wanted to take video as I cycled along bush trails, kayaked along creeks, or swam, including underwater. To do this the camera needs to be easy to start recording, easy to stop, and easy to tell whether it is recording or stopped, in circumstances where you cannot see the screen (obviously!). The Akaso Brave 4 doesn’t deliver this function. It’s hard to tell, in noisy and very bright conditions, when it’s mounted on your helmet or handlebars or front of your boat, if it is turned on, recording, stopped or turned off. Consequently it is inevitable that sometimes you will stop it when you meant to start, and you’ll start recording when you think you’re stopping. You won’t be certain that it’s capturing the action. And you’ll miss the bit of action you wanted. Its good quality and economic price would get it five stars from me but it loses two stars for not being easy enough to use, negating the reason for having it.

The action camera is amazing for the price. Size and versality of the camera is great. The system on the camera is very easy to navigate. You can easily change any settings for your needs and the remote wrist watch makes it even easier to capture video at a moments notice. All the free acessories inside the box is useful. once you are connected to the app, you can download your footage wirelessly. The waterproof case comes with the camera and works really well. Highly recommended camera.

I installed (in the wrong location like an friggen amateur, live and learn) the waterproof casing on my DR650SE and whacked the little beauty in and set off. I first went up the back way of the Adelaide hills along a well known and loved weekly track for a lot of serious road bikers. I then went out to a mates farm with a motocross track and a dam near Murray Bridge. Resolution setting was only 1080p 30fps as a test.

It handled the jumps, it loved the dam. Not a lick of damage, didn’t move once and the image stabilization is on par with anything out there. I kid you not people this thing is the real deal, well done AKASO! I’m now trying to purchase their home security cameras but unfortunately they are sold out in Australia, and well they should be cos this stuff is quality! Get on it or go home humans!!!! Killer Stuff AKASO!….seriously.

     Incredible value for the money.
Great quality videos, acceptable photos, fully waterproof, good menu, plenty of accessories.
** Amazon compressed the video. It looks awesome on my computer **

Why did I choose the Akaso Brave?
    1. Akaso has a better website (and hopefully support/warranty) compared other action cams I see on Amazon.
    2. Olympus Tough TG-5 (amazing camera) was outside my budget.
    3. GoPro Hero was way outside my budget.
    4. Most waterproof cameras under $400 are mixed with bad reviews indicating leakage.

This camera is with me & the wife right now in Hawaii celebrating our ten year anniversary!

It has done a great job across several hours of salt water snorkeling, exploring beautiful pools, and adventuring in bamboo forests.

The wireless was relatively straightforward so I could transfer the photos and videos to my iPhone easily.

Here’s some extra stuff I bought:
    1. Flow by microJib … floating, extendable handle. Worth every penny. Best one I could find.
    https://www.amazon.com/Flow-MicroJib-Waterproof-Extendable-Floating/dp/B01MXHWWUA
    2. Shoot waterproof diving light (works great; I have not submerged more than 5 feet underwater)
    3. Samsung EVO 32GB microSD
    4. Tekcam waterproof case (an extra, just in case, have not yet tested)
    5. Extra batteries (two original batteries have each given me about 40 minutes of good use so far, so I have not tested new batteries)

When I need it handy, I store the Flow handle, my flash, and action cam (all connected ready to go) inside of two big socks.

What don’t I like about this camera?
    1. No lens protector 🙁 so be careful to store your plastic waterproof case in a sock!
    2. No ability to buy extra cases from the manufacturer (had to by 3rd party).
    3. Included Remote control is not waterproof/submersible; there is no way to buy replacements from manufacturer.
    4. Not quite the same quality as GoPro or Olympus TG-5 (but close for most people, and costs much less).
    5. Photos: not nearly the same quality as iPhone or Samsung Android, but still acceptable.
    6. Less support, no user manual, etc.

Here are some tips (for most people):
    1. See my attached photo for how to insert microSD.
    2. The screen will shut off to save battery. Tap the down button to turn it back on. (when snorkeling, for example)
    3. When in video recording mode, tap the down arrow to turn microphone on or off.
    4. In the menu, 1080 30 fps is a great high-quality video choice.
    5. In the menu, 5M or 8M will be decent for images/photos, for most people. (Larger values increase the storage size & print size).
    6. In the menu, turn OFF the loop recording, date stamp, motion detection, and beep sound. (for most people)
    7. In the menu, set Auto Off to 10 minutes (for snorkeling/ adventuring).
    8. In the menu, set Quality to fine.
    9. In the menu, play around with Angle.
Wider angles can be more fisheye for objects on the edge, but wide is great for snorkeling.
    10. Yes you CAN delete photos/videos from the preview mode on screen.
Hold the up arrow and push the enter button on top; you will be prompted what to delete.

Overall I am super super pleased.
    Incredible value, easy to use.
Great videos and acceptable photos. Lots of features and accessories.

This review is sincere. If the action cam disappoints in the future, I’ll update my review.

  8. Thorn

This camera is awesome!! Was delivered quickly and in whole. The camera take pictures and videos was crystal clear. The camera comes with 2 batteries which is helpful. The recording options are endless. I use mine everyday, mounted in my car to record these crazy drivers!!
Downloading videos to your camera roll is simply one push button.

Some of the positive features I’ve noticed include:
    – 4K 20 MP resolution
    – Great exposure and vivid colors
    – Image stabilization
    – Waterproof

The fact that it is waterproof critical because I love taking underwater pictures and now I can use this camera to record great videos, as well. I can’t wait to go diving with it.

My plan was to mount a camera on the front of my motorcycle and I wasn’t too sure if I could find a way to do that and if the camera would wind up being fun at first but more of a nuisance and unnecessary once the “fun of it wore off”. I did my research and decided on this camera since it had the features I wanted but wasn’t going to break the bank. Found a mounting bracket specific to my bike and gave them new camera a ride. I got great video of my travels with clear views of the road and surroundings, jitter free, and easy to operate while riding with the remote. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase and there’s no need for an expensive upgrade, this one works just fine.
