I needed a new laptop for my primary use of software development but that could also handle some gaming and media creation.
The laptop arrived and out of the box needed a ton of updates. Most of this was handled automatically by the included Windows 11 and Dell support software, including BIOS updates, etc. Fingerprint reader works fine for me as does the trackpad. Hooking up two external monitors with the HDMI and usb-c ports (with a generic DisplayPort adapter from Amazon) was super easy. I even had reasonable performance playing Doom via Steam on a single monitor at 1080p. This isn’t going to be a full on gaming laptop, but it handles my usual light gaming well.
The internal SSD is fast and my external SSD performed well at about regular SATA speeds (500mbps r/w).

Straight out of the box, after charging for over an hour, the laptop wouldn’t power up. Dead! The only light seen was the LED light by the charging port. Had to go on the Dell website and call for technical assistance. After about 10 minutes of trouble shooting it finally came up. Not good at all, seeing that this is a brand new laptop. The fingerprint scanner doesn’t work either, keep getting an error message. Says it’s not accessible. So I’ll probably have to trouble shoot to figure it out. I’m hoping that I can get at least 5 years from this machine, but at this rate, I’m skeptical.
Not at all pleased with this machine; should’ve gone with the Dell Inspiron 15 5515. Now THAT is a great machine!!! I purchased that one for my daughter in April, and set up was a breeze.
**UPDATE OCT 13, 2022** The laptop works as it should. No further power issues encountered. After troubleshooting with DELL Technical Support for the non-functioning fingerprint scanner, I was advised that the motherboard and the Palmrest assembly needs replacing. All upgrades were done, and the fingerprint scanner still doesn’t show up in BIOS. Apart from this issue, the machine works fine. I’m giving it 2 stars because of the issues encountered. The DELL Support team provided excellent service, I’m happy with the service they provided

I know little to nothing about computers, but this laptop is great. I mainly use it for web surfing. The set up was easy and user friendly. At first I was annoyed with the noise of the fan, but after I did all of the updates the noise of the fan went away. I like the finger print scan and the speed was awesome. The back light is very nice as well. I put a keyboard cover on there just to protect the keys as a precaution. Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase.

So far everything is as promised and I’m having fun learning Windows 11. The only problem is the color was supposed to be pebble green and what got was a silver laptop. Doesn’t affect performance though.

1 month after my purchase, Amazon raise its price by $50. Everything is more expensive now 🙁 I bought this because of (1) the 16″ 1920 display, it gives me a few more lines of text in VS Code than a 1080p display and with bigger characters for comfort when I use the laptop for more than 8 hours a day, (2) 8 cores and 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM and (3) no numeric keypad. While the display is rated 250 nit, it’s not dark. I set mine at 75% brightness or about 200 nit. I dislike a numeric keyboad on a laptop and most laptops with >= 15″ displays has numeric keypad. This is as close to a 16″ Mac keyboard layout as one can get without buying a Mac. I wish more laptops would forgo the numeric keypad. Mac still has the best sound tho, even 2011 Mac has better sound than any 2022 non-Mac laptops.

I received my new laptop 4 days ago and I’m not by any means a computer person but I was able to set everything up and it works! I’m so proud that I didn’t even have to ask for help from my kids or grandkids.
It has updated one time since I started using it and not a hitch. I don’t have a printer so I didn’t have that issue. I’m extremely happy with my purchase.
